520 ## - SUMMARY, ETC.
Summary, etc. We are presently aware that humanity is capable of affecting the planet unlike any other biological species to date. In the Anthropocene, the power of human action has become greater than that of geological forces. One of the main characteristics of the Anthropocene is the domination of carbon-based fossil energy and its massive use. The combustion of fossil resources that accumulated over long periods in remote times releases large quantities of carbon dioxide into the atmosphere. The greenhouse effect of this gas is one of the principal factors keeping our planet within a liveable threshold.
