520 _aIcoon Afsluitdijk, the design innovation program by Dutch designer and innovator Daan Roosegaarde and his team of experts, was officially launched in the presence of Michèle Blom, Director General of Rijkswaterstaat. The legendary 32-kilometre dike built by hand and realised in 1932 protects the Netherlands from water and is a unique place in the world. After 85 years of intensive use, it is now time for a large-scale renovation. Commissioned by the Dutch government, Roosegaarde’s Icoon Afsluitdijk contributes towards strengthening the iconic value of the Afsluitdijk. From today onwards, all of the designs on exhibit for Icoon Afsluitdijk are open to all and free to visit after sunset. Windvogel and Glowing nature can be seen through 21 January 2018; Gates of Light is a permanent installation.
